PHOENIX - Cha Seung Baek threw six shutout innings, and the San Diego Padres beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-1 on Friday night to drop the NL West leaders below .500.

Arizona (43-44) saw its lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers slip to a half-game, its narrowest margin since April 7.

Kevin Kouzmanoff had two singles and drove in a run for the Padres, who won for only the third time since June 14.

Baffling the Diamondbacks with sweeping breaking balls, Baek (2-3) took a bid for San Diego's first no-hitter into the sixth inning.
