Open source fans: OpenMoko has finally announced the availability of its Neo FreeRunner handset. The Linux-based handset will, fittingly, be available to consumers in the US on July 4th.
The Neo FreeRunner features WiFi, aGPS, Bluetooth 2.0, and comes in two different tri-band GSM versions, according to MobileBurn. The Handset also features a 2.8-inch VGA touchscreen, two 3-axis motion sensors, and 128MB WSDRAM/256MB NAND flash. Of course the big news here is the aforementioned fact that the phone is entirely open-source, a big win for all of the Linux fans who are tired of dealing with wireless carrier-imposed handset lockdowns.
The Neo FreeRunner will run for a suggested $399, and will be available in North America, Europe, and India.
