NEW YORK (Reuters) - News and financial data provider Bloomberg LP hired veteran television news executive Andrew Lack to run its expanding television, interactive and radio operations.
Lack will take over those operations from Matt Winkler, who will remain the chief of Bloomberg's news group, which includes the Bloomberg wire service and other units, Bloomberg said in a statement on Tuesday.
He is the latest high-profile hire for the news service, following Norm Pearlstine, former editor-in-chief of Time Warner Inc's Time Inc and managing editor of The Wall Street Journal, who was hired away from the Carlyle Group private equity firm earlier this year.
Lack previously was chairman and chief executive of Sony BMG Music Entertainment as well as Sony Music Entertainment.
He made his biggest mark in television news, serving as president and chief operating officer at General Electric Co's NBC. While there, he oversaw cable news channel MSNBC and business news channel CNBC.
He was president of NBC News from 1993 to 2001, a time when "NBC Nightly News With Tom Brokaw," "Meet the Press" and "The Today Show" each reached the No. 1 slot in their time periods, Bloomberg said in the statement.
Before that, Lack worked at CBS Corp's CBS News, where he created the news magazine program "West 57th," and was a producer at the long-running news program "60 Minutes."
At Bloomberg, Lack will report to President Dan Doctoroff, along with Winkler and Pearlstine.
Thomson Reuters Corp, which owns Reuters news service, competes with Bloomberg LP in providing news and financial data.
