Leica grabs bragging rights with `fastest' lens (AP)

AP - Before camera manufacturers one-upped each other with the number of megapixels, they one-upped each other with the zoom range of their lenses. And before that, in the 1960s, the "speed" of the lens, its ability to gather light, was the big selling point. Full text

Sony DSC-T20 Camera Issue Causes Some to Fail (PC Magazine)

Sony Corp. has announced that it has discovered an issue affecting certain of its DSC-T20 digital cameras that can result in an inability to take pictures, according to Sony.

The good news is that Sony is extending the camera's warranty by an additional two years to deal with the problem, until July 9, 2011.

According to Sony, in certain units, the lens cannot adjust properly due to a mechanical failure in the lens mechanism. When the automatic features of the camera attempt to adjust the lens, the camera body vibrates, preventing it from properly focusing or taking pictures.

The fault only occurs when the camera is powered on, according to Sony, and the vibration is similar to that of a mobile phone set to silent mode.

This issue affects pink or silver DSC-T20 cameras sold in the United States, with serial numbers between 500001 and 525350. If you have an affected camera, users can access the Sony dedicated service page and ask for a prepaid shipping label to return the camera. Sony advises backing up all the pictures left on the unit, as they will probably be lost during the repair.
